Difference between Solar National Portal Subsidy & Tender based Solar Subsidy Programme in Kerala - January 2024

Rooftop Solar National Portal Subsidy
In the Rooftop Solar National Portal Subsidy Scheme, the customers pay the full project cost to the solar dveloper company, and gets the subsidy reimbursed to their bank account directly within a stipulated time (approximately 1 month or more). The prices quoted by each solar developer might differ, and there is no standard pricing. The prices are dependant on the developer, and might vary with varying factors such as the technology used, brands etc.
State Level Tender Based Portal Subsidy
In the State Level Tender Based Portal Subsidy Scheme of KSEB called Soura, the prices are discovered in a tender by KSEB in the state, and all companies have to adhere to the same pricing (for a standard system specifications). The list of companies empanelled is available and published in the KSEB's website. The customers pay only the price of the system minus the subsidy amount to the Developer Company, and hence gets the subsidy benefit upfront deducted. Hence, there is no delay for the subsidy for the end customer. KSEB later releases the subsidy to the Developer company after the installation is completed and quality is checked and approved, thus customers don't have to take much risks associated.

In addition to the National Portal for Rooftop Subsidy scheme, in the 2021-22 fiscal year, around 200 MW of capacity was designated by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) specifically for Kerala. The Kerala State Electricity Board Limited (KSEBL) has undertaken the task of implementing this allocation through a large-scale mobilization initiative called Soura Phase 1 and 2. The Surya Thejus Scheme, promoted by the Agency for Non-conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT), is also supporting this program and offering subsidies to end customers. Approximately 35 approved companies are actively involved in implementing this program throughout Kerala.
KSEB’s Current Subsidy Program (Only for Residential Consumers)
40% Subsidy for up to 3 kW, and 20% for up to 10 kW Subsidy
Total Allocation : 200,000 kW (200 MW) is the current allocation to KSEB from MNRE.
Balance Remaining : 50 MW (Approximately)

SUBSIDY FOR ONGRID SOLAR FOR DOMESTIC CONSUMERS IN INDIA - January 2024
The Indian government, under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), provides solar subsidies known as Central Financial Assistance (CFA). These subsidies are granted as a percentage of the Benchmark price established for each on-grid project capacity. Notably, the CFA subsidies are presently limited to domestic consumers. Additional Charges for Fixing Solar
In the case where the consumer's roof is not flat, any additional expenses incurred for structural adjustments to accommodate a sloping roof or other obstacles will be the responsibility of the consumer.
The cost of the net meter and any extra cables exceeding 50 meters in length are not included in the initial price. However, net meters can usually be obtained from KSEBL on a rental basis. We recommend this option as any potential future issues with the meters, such as complaints or billing problems arising from faulty meters, will be handled by KSEBL. This ensures that customers need not be concerned about the quality of the meters or related billing issues.

The system price is Rs. 1,90,500 (including all taxes, assuming standard system specifications). The subsidy amount is Rs. 43,764/- (which is 40% of the MNRE benchmark price for this capacity) and the Customer Payable amount is Rs. 1,46,736/- only.
This is for a Flat roof terrace house requiring standard solar structure. Only if the structure requirement is different, then that will be extra (but the customer can opt to do such works himself without paying anything extra to us)

For a 3 kWp system with subsidy, once you make the payment as per the agreed payment terms, Our average time frames as per our past Trackrecord is 30 days totally from payment receipt to commissioning.
However, Our committed time frames under normal conditions are to deliver the materials within 15 days. We usually install the system in another 15 days, and KSEBL does the Netmeter connection in another 15 days. These are usually the maximum time frames expected under normal conditions.

What are your acceptable payment modes/methods?

Polycrystalline Panels Vs Monocrystalline Panels
Polycrystalline are the most proven and time-tested technology in Solar Modules having more than 60 years of field-tested and proven trackrecord. Monocrystalline modules are relatively new technology, and they have higher area-efficiency in terms of output from a unit area of light falling on it, and conversion to electric energy. However, a 3 kWp power plant, whether using monocrystalline modules or polycrystalline modules will generate the same output under STC (Standard Test Conditions) conditions, just that the Monocrystalline modules will help you save some area (maybe a few square meters). Remember, a 3 kWp Solar Panel, whether Monocrystalline or Poly Crystalline have been tested for 3 kWp in the factory before shipping; and will generate the same power output and you are only paying for the Wp output of the solar panels, not for the technology!
Thus, in all practical conditions, the only difference between Monocrystalline solar panels and polycrystalline solar panels are that monocrystalline modules can save some area (maybe a few square meters) needed to generate the same output; There is no change in output. Monocrystalline modules are more expensive compared to Polycrystalline modules. Thus, if you have a lot of area to work with or if roof area is not a major constraint, you might find it more cost-effective to install more polycrystalline panels on your property to suit your energy needs because their price point is lower while generating the same power output.
Depending on where you live and how much roof area you have, polycrystalline panels can be a better value for money and investment for you, and technology is also advancing quickly in this area.
